There are no radiology requirements for dental assistants in the state of Idaho. All dental assistants may legally operate dental x-ray equipment and perform dental radiologic procedures.
To perform expanded functions under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist in the state of Idaho, a dental assistant must be Idaho Board-qualified in expanded functions. To qualify, one must: (1) Hold a current national DANB Certification or successfully complete an Idaho Board-approved course in the fundamentals of dental assisting or successfully challenge the fundamentals course AND (2) Successfully complete an Idaho Board-approved competency exam in each of the expanded functions.
