Marlene W. Futterman, BA, MA, was elected to the Dental Assisting
National Board’s (DANB’s) Board of Directors in 2005 as a consumer/public representative. She will complete her first of a possible two three-year terms and will begin her second term in August 2008.
Ms. Futterman has been a foreign service officer (Vice Consul) serving in Scotland and Washington, DC but also
having temporary duty throughout Southeast Asia and East Africa. She was Program Director for the Office of Economic
Opportunity Community Action Agency. She has been Director of Development for the U.S. League of Women Voters
and Executive Director of the Overseas Education Foundation of the League. In addition, she served as Executive
Director of the Direct Selling Education Foundation developing and implementing programs with marketing
professors and consumer advocates around the world. She was also group and academic leader for three groups
of students under the auspices of the World Council (formerly the Experiment in International Living) and
has consulted in managerial and programmatic areas.
Ms. Futterman recently completed two four-year terms as a public member of
the National Commission for the Certification of Physical Assistants. She is Past Chair of the Hospitality and Information Service, a non-profit organization which helps
diplomats and their families become acclimated to the United States. She has been President of the National Coalition for Consumer Education, and was a member of the advisory board
of the Baylor University School for Professional Selling.
Ms. Futterman received her BA magna cum laude from Smith College and her MA in international
relations from Yale University. She spent her junior year in Geneva,
Switzerland studying at the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International
Affairs.
