Cynthia C. Durley, MEd, MBA
DANB Executive Director

Cynthia C. Durley, MEd, MBA, as Executive Director of the Dental Assisting National Board, is an ex officio member of the DANB’s Board of Directors.

Ms. Durley has been employed by DANB since 1986. She was first hired as DANB's Director, Testing and Measurement, where she worked with dental assistants, hygienists, and dentists to develop and set pass/fail standards for 48 national and state dental assisting credentialing examinations. She held this position until September 1996, when she was named Acting Executive Director. She was hired as DANB's Executive Director in August 1997.

Ms. Durley was elected to the National Organization for Competency Assurance's (NOCA's) National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) in 1999. The NCCA accredits national certification programs that meet NCCA standards related to organization governance, adherence to recognized psychometric standards, and service to candidates, certificants, and the public. Ms. Durley was elected as NCCA's Co-Chair in 2002, serving as its Chair in 2003 and 2004. Ms. Durley was then elected by NOCA's membership (representatives of other certification organizations in the United States and Canada) to serve as NOCA's President-Elect (2005), President (2006) and Immediate Past President (2007).  She currently serves as Chair of the Assessment Work Group for NOCA's Assessment-Based Certificate Programs Standards Committeeand is on the NOCA Task Force to Study International Certification Accreditation Standards (ISO 17024) .

Prior to her work with DANB and NOCA/NCCA, Ms. Durley was Manager, Examination Development and Services at the Academy of General Dentistry for four years, during which time she was also Executive Secretary of the Certifying Board of General Dentistry (now the American Board). She has also developed examinations and evaluated curricula for the U.S. Navy and taught statistics and testing and measurement courses at Loyola University of Chicago.

Ms. Durley has a B.S. degree in biology from the University of Notre Dame, a Master's degree in education from Loyola University of Chicago, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from DePaul University.
