Carol K. Oeder, CDA, COA, CPFDA, CDPMA, FADAA, LPN, was nominated by DANB Certificants to DANB's Board of Directors in 2009, and is serving her first of a possible two three-year terms as Certificant-at-Large.
Ms. Oeder earned her CDA in 1980, followed by her LPN in 1988, CDPMA in 2001, COA in 2001, and CPFDA in 2011. She earned Fellowship in the American Dental Assistants Association (FADAA) in 2004 and is currently working toward her Mastership (MADAA). She is a graduate of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons anesthesia assistants program and the Milwaukee Area Technical College Practical Nursing Program.
Ms. Oeder is currently a Compliance Specialist at Dental Associates Ltd., where she has been employed for nearly eight years. Ms. Oeder spent two years (2005 and 2006) with One Call Dental Staffing as a traveling dental assistant to various military bases throughout the United States, which included Puerto Rico and Hawaii. Prior to her employment with Dental Associates, Ltd. Ms. Oeder worked at Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin for 10 years as a dental assistant instructor, training individuals with a wide range of barriers to employment. Ms. Oeder’s career in dental assisting started as a chairside assistant for a general dentist; she later went on to assist in pediatric dentistry and orthodontics.
Ms. Oeder is heavily involved with numerous organizations. She has served on the Milwaukee Area Technical College Dental Assistant Advisory Committee since 2004, as well as the Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) Dental Advisory Committee since 2010. She has been a member of the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA) at the national, state and local levels since 1979. Ms. Oeder has held numerous board positions, including President of the Wisconsin Dental Assistants Association from 1999-2000 and President of the Milwaukee Dental Assistants Society from 1984-1986. She also served as a volunteer in oral health education at the Chippewa Indian Reservation in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., and has organized medical and dental groups to work in Third World countries, primarily Haiti.
Ms. Oeder is the recipient of the ADAA Pride Award, the Rotary Foundation International Paul Harris Fellowship, the Outstanding Franklin Woman of the Year Award, and the Milwaukee Dental Assistants Society Appreciation Award. |
